Welcome to Tatenda Guest House

The property was originally registered as DaJune Restaurant in 1999, affectionately known as “the Scone Deck” amongst local residents, and started operating as Tatenda Guest House soon thereafter.

The name “Tatenda” means “Thank You” in Shona, a native language of Zimbabwe.  In 2018 Brian and Gerda Chambers moved to Hazyview and took up the challenge of owning and managing the Guest House.  The couple have a hands-on approach to life and enjoy interacting with people.  “We love the great outdoors and have a keen interest in the fauna and flora of South Africa.  Other interests include off-roading, camping, fishing, game viewing, gardening and hobby photography.”

Although located in the heart of Hazyview suburbia, Tatenda has the atmosphere of being “in the bush”.  The Guest House is nestled under a canopy of mature indigenous trees with a natural garden, winding paths, water features and fish ponds for guests to enjoy.  Brian and Gerda came from a then drought-stricken Cape Town, and understand the importance of conserving water.  One of their first priorities was to install grey water systems and rainwater harvesting tanks to conserve and re-use water as much as possible.  A green approach to gardening and the continuous introduction of more indigenous flora creates a natural balance where birdlife thrives, much to the delight of those with a keen interest in birding.  With Hazyview located in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, an area of immense natural beauty and home to the “Big 5”, it is the ideal destination from which to explore the Panorama Route and surrounding attractions, as well as the Kruger National Park and other private reserves in the area.  “At Tatenda, we always strive to offer warm hospitality, personalised service, a homely environment and a tranquil stay that will foster fond memories of a home from home you will always long to return to.”
